Girdler strikes gold with his next game release And Girdler began earning between $1,750 and $2,000 a month from the game. "Two Player Secret Hideout Tycoon" peaked that year with 3,000 players. Things turned a corner for Girdler in 2017. "That was my entire earnings for the whole year of 2016," Girdler said.
He earned $350 for microtransactions from players in "Two Player Secret Hideout Tycoon." One year later, after designing more than 200 games ranging from tycoon games to a dance club game and a snowboarding game, Girdler said he received his first check from Roblox. Nobody really played the game initially, Girdler said, but by 2015 more than 100 people were playing it. Two years later, at the age of 11, Girdler constructed one of his first Roblox games, called "Two Player Secret Hideout Tycoon." The goal, like with other games in the tycoon genre, was to start small with a designated amount of money, buy and build something, and eventually create a mini-money-making empire. Girdler, who was 9-years-old at the time, laid on the floor with his friend's laptop and began building little structures: houses, obstacles, and other "wild and wonderful things" that he said didn't quite have names.
